Sriracha Rooster Sauce Gets Better with Age

All hail the mighty Sriracha! Colloquially known as the ‘Rooster Sauce’, for obvious reasons – look at the picture – Sriracha Hot Chili Sauce needs no introduction. Almost everyone has already tried it, and the world is now split into two: those who love it, and those who haven’t tried it enough to love it. Whether you use a little or a lot, Sriracha is awesome. Use a lot.

Interestingly, Sriracha Hot Chili Sauce is also one of the cheapest individual items you can buy at Costco. If you have a look at the picture below, you’ll see that my bottle is quite old. When I saw the light and decided I LOVED Sriracha, I started buying it 2 or 3 at a time, every time I went to Costco, just to make sure I would never run out.

As you can imagine, I have quite the overstock of Sriracha, and a wonderful thing has happened! My Sriracha is now well and truly past the ‘expiry’ date embossed on the bottle. The one in the picture has been expired since July, 2011.

I don’t think this kind of product can actually expire, however. I have found that the Rooster Sauce has increased in spiciness to an almost unbearable level, which of course makes it even better.

When I was actively building up my Sriracha stash, I think I was paying about $2.79 or $2.99 a bottle from Costco, which really help brings down the average cost per item of my shopping cart.

While I am posting this in the ‘Product Reviews’ category, I don’t think I really need to review the product for you to know that it is awesome. Sriracha is very hot (extremely hot in my case) and highly delectable. I goes well with almost everything. To learn more about this delicious version of the Rooster Sauce, click here.

In closing, have a look at this homage to Sriracha, by web comic The Oatmeal. It sums up quite nicely what true believers feel about “this savior of crappy asian food”!
