Skippy Smooth Peanut Butter Product Review

I’ll be the first to admit that I’m a sucker for peanut butter. I love it. Peanut butter is awesome on toast with butter or margarine, with honey, even with – gasp – cheddar cheese and sliced meat, or whatever else is around. I’m really not that difficult. You won’t be surprised to learn that consequently, I eat quite of bit of peanut butter. This is why I was so happy to find the Skippy Smooth Peanut Butter on special at my very favorite store, Costco!

Costco is the place to go to get large jars of the stuff you love, on special. This 2 kilogram, or 4.4-pound jar of Skippy Smooth Peanut Butter was only $6.99, which is a great price to start with.

Of course, with such large quantities of food, you always have to be mindful of the expiration date. In this case, the best before date for all my jars of peanut butter is January, 2015, so I’ve got plenty of time to get my protein on.Skippy Smooth Peanut Butter Nutritional Information

It does, however, get better. It was also on special, with $2 dollars off! I ended paying a mere $4.99 per jar, so I bought a few. Thankfully, I now have a room dedicated to hoarding extra stuff so all’s well. Don’t tell my wife. She thinks it’s the guest bedroom.

The problem, if it can called that, is to the right. Prepared, as opposed to natural peanut butter, is made awesome with the judicious addition of soybean oil, maltodextrin, icing sugar and of course everyone’s favorite, hydrogenated vegetable oil.

At the very least, this is not something for someone on a fat-free diet. Like all things, Skippy’s Smooth Peanut Butter, bought in large quantity while on special at Costco, is to be eaten in moderation… Jeez, who am I kidding? I eat it by the spoonful, 100 calories at a time. Needless to say, getting ┬ánatural peanut better is a much better option, even though it is not nearly as user-friendly, particularly near the bottom of the jar.

I ended up paying only $1.13 per pound of Skippy Smooth Peanut Butter when I bought it a couple of days ago (on special) from my local Costco. The number of pounds I bought will remain undisclosed at this time. Let’s just say I won’t run out anytime soon.
