Kirkland Signature Dishwasher Pacs Product Review

Today I thought I would share with you another one of my regular Costco, Kirkland Signature purchases, namely the Kirkland Signature Dishwasher Pacs. They come in a little clear bucket with a yellow top, there are 110 pacs in the bucket, and the whole thing costs $10.89, Canadian dollars.

Because of the size of the package, I don’t have to buy this often, at most twice a year, and that’s probably an exaggeration. Like most automatic dishwasher detergent, Costco’s dishwasher pacs claim the following:

  • Grease-Fighting Power
  • Sparkling Clean, Streak-Free Dishes
  • Ease and Convenience
  • Lemon Scent

What I like most about them, besides the fact that they work as advertized, is their cost: only 9.9 pennies per use. Thirty or forty cents a week to have all my dishes clean sounds pretty good to me!

Let’s be clear about one thing: this isn’t a gel-filled, swirly little pack with different colors in it; it is a no-frills, powder-filled pack that somehow manages to do the job quite well. Costco’s Kirkland Signature Dishwasher Pacs is a product that has delivered for me very well, at a very good price over the last few years, and I would be happy to recommend it to anyone. Update – October 2nd, 2015 – Despite what I had decided to do – read the comments below – I’ve decided to purchase another bucket of Kirkland Signature Dishwasher Packs. The price has gone up since I last bought them, all the way up to $12.99, but that’s still only 11.81 cents per load. Very acceptable, considering the price of the competition has gone up, too.

I didn’t notice, but will pay closer attention in the future. Maybe it depends on the dishwasher itself, too.

After a few washes with these tablets they severely discolour pans. Apparently it is not adviseable to put alluminium pans in any dishwasher (dishwasher detergent manufacturers will not put this information on their packaging as they, and quote “do not want to be at a competitive disadvantage by doing so”) as the detergents will discolour them, this may be true but after years of using other brands without this problem, these turned aluminium pressure cooker black after a several washes. Also removed gold from the handles of stainless steel pans.
Seriously one wash with these tablets is not a good guide for recommending them.

These are the worst dishwasher tablets I have ever used. They do not clean glasses and things on the top shelf. They leave dirt on the glasses. I have even used two tablets per wash and it still happens. I would not recommend this product.

While I am satisfied with the pacs, there are enough negative comments about them that I will purchase another brand when I’m done with those I have, for a better comparison. Thank you very much for your input!

Just purchased a new box of Kirkland dishwasher pacs.
When wash cycle was complete, I found the pac sitting on top of a dish. It had not desolved.
Started the cycle again with new pac, same problem. I’ve used these before with no problem.
Looks to me that there is no quality control on their production line. Won’t buy this again. Waste of my time, electricity and water.

The pacs come in odd shapes and won’t fit the dispenser without manipulation. However they are too hard to mold in your hands. The manufacturer should quality ensure to keep them all in a slender shape when manufacturing.

Box is very harsh to open, even after initial opening as the plastic rim on the 115 PAC box makes the lid really difficult to open, and I cut my finger on it. Product itself satisfactory but this issue will prevent me from buying again

Worst dishwashing product I’ve ever used. Does not cut grease. Half the time packet does not dissolve. I’ll probably just throw it away and go back to Cascade powder or some other brand. Why do they always have to “improve” products until they no longer work?
